Jelly Roll Morton Publicity photograph, probably taken in the Bloom photograph studio in Chicago, c. 1927 All publications of this photograph stem from a copy that Morton dedicated to his favourite clarinet player Omer Simeon (1902-1959), who was born in New Orleans, but trained in Chicago. The text reads: With Best Wishes to my friend Omer Simeon “Jelly Roll” Morton The photograph, not including the dedication text, may first have appeared on the front cover of Folio No. 1 of “Jelly Roll” Morton’s Famous Series of Blues & Stomps for Piano, published by Herman Darewski, London, c. 1944. [25]
The Bloom photograph studio was located in the State-Lake Theatre Building, Chicago. Bloom advertised in the New York Dramatic Mirror on 4th June 1921. [39]
